Building Connections-Building Community

Building Connections - Building Community (BC2) is a federally funded child abuse and neglect project facilitated by the Tarrant County Youth Collaboration. Parents who neglect and abuse their children are often socially isolated from formal and informal support systems. BC2 seeks to de-isolate families at risk of abusing or neglecting their children by generating more social opportunities and providing family resource coordinators to help families take advantage of those resources.

BC2 Prevention Component:

The Prevention component is focused on building social capital infrastructure. TCYC identifies a Social Capital Enrichment Zone in a Tarrant County zip code with high rates of reported child abuse and neglect. At risk families are then connected to a local network of existing natural community resources in an effort to prevent future problems. TCYC works with the natural community partners of the faith community, city government, and school districts to develop and implement new connecting opportunities for at risk families.

BC2 Intervention Component:

The Intervention component is focused on connecting referred adults and youth to natural community resources that will decrease the social isolation of these families in an effort to ensure that they families do not become CPS clients. Family Resource Coordinators are assigned to make home visits and encourage families to connect with the available services.  Funds are available to help families take full advantage of the resources when necessary.

The BC2 project concluded on March 31, 2008.
